Pupils from Hiltenfinger Primary School prepare typical German/ Bavarian meals

Together with their teacher Mrs. Seehuber the 4^th-grade students cooked two typical Bavarian meals at school.

Group one prepared a dessert called „Bayerische Crème”.
This very sweet dessert takes a while to get its right consistence before it can be eaten.

Group two prepared a „Schwäbische Flädlesuppe“. Pancakes must be baked, then cut into stripes und put into a soup of vegetables.

Another group was responsible for decorating the tables: they folded serviettes, created menus on their new PC`s and laid the tables in fine manner.

After work, all the children gathered at the beautifully decorated tables, to have a delicious meal together.

Work on the typical houses of Brittany

Rennes, the capital of Brittany, shows us the oldest Breton examples of half-timbered houses. During our lessons in Arts the third class reconstructed the half-timbered houses, which you can see in the city of Rennes.

We had to use fine strips of thick paper to reproduce the various structures and decorations of these houses. We can see wooden beams and decorations as cross of St. Andrew (only under windows).

Then we colored the houses in the typical colors.

When we finished our houses, we put them side by side and recreated Middle-Ages Breton street.

Paste of caramelized biscuits:

What do we need?

200 grams of caramelized biscuits
8 cl of coffee
a bit of milk
cinemon
a slice of bread so you can taste!
a pestle

Before starting:

Wash your hands

Step 1:

Take 200 grams of caramelized biscuits

Step 2:

Crush the biscuits in small pieces

Step 3:

Add 8cl of warm coffee to the biscuits and a little bit of milk.

Step 4:

Blend it all together. If you want you can leave small pieces of biscuit in the mixture.

Step 5:

Flavour with cinemon.

Step 6:

Froth everything together!

Step 7:

Spread it on a slice of bread…

Enjoy your meal!

[FRENCH RECIPES] CREPES BRETONNES from Brittany ...

Here is the second recipe from Brittany !

RECETTE DES CREPES BRETONNES

Ingredients :

-500gms of flour

-150 gms of sugar

-10gms of salt

-4 eggs

-90 cl of milk

-25gms of butter

STEP 1 :
- Pour the flour, the salt and the sugar in a big bowl. Mix these ingredients together.
STEP 2 :
-break the eggs and beat them in the bowl with the flour, salt and sugar.

STEP 3:
-Add the milk and mix it carefully with the other ingerdients using the wisk.

STEP 4 :
- let the mixure rest for one hour in the fridge.

STEP 5 :
-Mix your preparation with the rest of the milk (40 cl).
-Grease your frying pan and put it on the cooker
-Use a ladle to pour it and spread the mixture on the hot pan.
-Here is your crêpe, toss it and let it cook and stop it before it gets burnt !!!

(On the picture, you can see a typical "crêpière", but you can use a frying pan)

-You can eat it with Nutella (chocolate spread), honey, sugar, marmelade, butter, toffee...or whatever you want on it!)

St. Nikolaus and Christmas in Europe

During the last project meeting in Aalst I got to know the Belgien tradition of celebrating the feasts of St. Martin and St. Nikolaus. It is very different to the Bavaria tradition, so I bought a book for children in Aalst about „Sinterklaasje“ and the Belgien legende of St. Nikolaus.

In my 3. class, we red the Belgien story of „Sinterklaasje“ and continued with a project of „Celebrating Christmas and St. Nikolaus in different parts of Europe and North America“.We worked about 2 weeks in the lessons of German, History, Arts education and Music education.

[FRENCH RECIPES] "Far breton", not so far !

Here is a very traditionnal recipe from Britanny.

You can cook it with prunes(dried plums) but here is a recipe with raisins !!!

INGREDIENTS
100 grams of raisins
8 soup spoons of flour
7 soup spoons of sugar
a pinch of salt
3 eggs
1/2 litre of milk

USTENSILS :
a small bowl in which to soak the raisins and a sieve
a big mixing bowl and a medium-sized mixing bowl
a whisk and 2 soup spoons
a measuring jug
a flan dish

STEP ONE:Soak the raisins in water to make them swell.

STEP TWO
Pour the flour, the salt and the sugar into the big mixing bowl. Mix all these ingredients together.

STEP THREE
Break the eggs, beat them with the whisk in the medium-sized mixing bowl then add them to the mixture.

STEP FOUR
Add the milk, then mix it carefully with the other ingredients using the whisk

STEP FIVE
Strain the raisins through the sieve and then add

them into the mixture with a soup spoon.

STEP SIX
Pour the mixture into the flan dish then bake it in a moderate oven for one hour (155°C/ thermostat 4)

Project meeting Belgium

From 8 untill 12 November we had a project meeting in Belgium.

We all arrived well on Tuesday and got to learn some Belgian beers this first evening.
After the flight from home, it was a very pleasant welcome for all of us!

The Belgian partners have provided a map of activities extremely well organized: reception, school visits, workshops, cultural visits and also for leisure. .We didn’t know this was going to be a starter of a culinary week.

Wednesday we visited the classes of out Belgian partner. There are a lot differences between Belgium and our countries!
It was very nice to see how they manage their classes, what they learn and how classes are arranged .We have been given the oppurtunity to observe the educational component, teaching curricula and cultural levels of education
We took some time to evaluate the last activity (stories) and to prepare our next one (food). In meetings, we appreciated the good work dynamic and enormous capacity for communication, planning, sharing and evaluation that went beyond the language barrier.We discussed how did we implement the last activity planned,.and evaluate all the work previously done.It was known by all his colleagues, the interest and commitment shown throughout the work in this period, which meant that the goals were easily achieved We are all very satisfied with watch we agreed to… You will see in school! ...For now... Let´s do the cooking !In the afternoon we had a guided tour through Aalst, given by a known person in the town of Aalst. He was very humoristic and told us a lot about the history of this wonderful city. The tour ended with an official reception in the townhall by the council of education of Aalst.

On Thursday we met the Belgian Sainte Claus with his helper ‘zwarte Piet’. It was very different as the one we know.

All the children of the school performed for Sainte Claus, but also a bit for us! It was very nice, we appreciated it a lot!

Afterwards we had some time to ask some more things at the teachers of Basisschool Park!

On the last day of our stay, we started immediately with the meeting. Some very important things had to be decided for our big finale of the project. The WOW-Europe day!
After a couple of hours of working we went to visit Gent together.
Gent is a wonderful city with a big history. We also ate a typical Gent dish called Waterzooi!

Our guide was very enthusiastic and loved ‘his’ town like no-one else!

To end our project meeting in a nice way, the teachers from Basisschool Park, prepared a nice WinterBBQ! It was atmospheric with the baskets of burning wood all around.

We ate well and went back to the hotel, for the last time, because Saturday it was time to go back home again!

It was a nice experience!

Our hosts were extremely friendly, courteous and hospitable, whith a great sense of responsibility for the development of a work of this size.

It was a simple pleasant story to work with. Our children wanted to dramatise it! It was great fun!
They didn't know (and I didn't eather) what a gourd was, but thanks to your magnificent example the all could feel it, touch it, shake it...

As said, our children dramatised it. The result you can see in this film. The sound is not very good, our excuses!

The Bremen musicians

Sequel to the Bremer Stadtmusikanten

We read the story untill the musicians came to the house of the rovers and start singing.

Children of my class wrote the ending to the story like they thougt.

The rovers are scared and run outside.

But the rovers come back to see what is happening in their house. But the musicians disguised them as a ghost and a big bear and make sure the rovers never come back.

The day after they leave to Bremen.

On their way they meet a hunter. He shoots at the animals but misses all his shots. The animals don’t like this and run away. But the hunter doesn’t give up that easily and follows them. He stops because a bear ( a real one) is approaching him. Of course the hunter is scared and he starts running away. The musicians are save…

But from all the running for the hunter they are almost in Bremen. Still a couple of minutes and they arrive!

In Bremen, they meet Bobby the duck. He was leaning sadly en tired against a tree. He was fired from the zoo because he was too old and he couldn’t swim anymore. But… he is a really good singer. Therefore the musicians say he can join them.

They go and search for the castle of the king of Bremen. They want to go and play music there. On the way to the castle they pass a ‘free shop’. There they ‘buy’ human masks and disguise them as real people.

They arrive at the castle of King Lars ( the King of Bremen). They ring at the big gate. De gate opens but there is nothing to see… they think. Luckily for them, the cat has great eyes and sees the king. He is not the king they expected: he is very little!

Together they all start to play their best songs for the king. The king is seized with emotion and makes the musicians the official musicians of the court!

From now on the musicians have the live they always dreamed of… singing, making music and be laaaaazzzzzyyyyyy…

This sequel was made by children of 8 years!

During the month of January, pupils at Vila Ruiva School developed the second activity of the project «Wide Open Windows in Europe ». This activity included the confection of chickpea and sweet potato biscuits which are traditional Portuguese sweets very much appreciated in the Carnival period. These delicacies were made by the children and their families and by the local community.
It was a very interesting activity not only because children have improved their knowledge of traditional Portuguese cookery but they’ve also developed arts and crafts skills which were used in the final compilation of the written work.

Project Meeting Hiltenfingen

In the beginning of December all partners of the project met each other in Germany.

Gabrielle and her collegues prepared a nice time schedual for these couple of days.
We planned the next activities to be undertaken in common, which are held around the theme "Holidays" and "Stories." and evaluate the presentation and dissemination of the project with pupils, teachers and other community.

We also discussed the themes and presentation of our common blog design.

Besides the work done together, it was possible to visit the partner school in Germany, Hiltenfingen school, contact with the students, be aware of teaching practices, school cultures and compare the functioning of schools and school systems in different countries.

This experience was shared in some way as all other teachers involved in the project either through blogs or through each school meetings.

It was very interesting to see the differences in education between Germany and our home country.

It should be noted how the group was warmly received in Augsburgh, where he had the chance to some of the sightseeing, contact Christmas traditions and sample the local cuisine.
